Abstract:

Cold War 2.0 has started, with Ukraine and the South China Sea being the two most contentious fronts.   As international trade is a win-win activity, the open economies of Southeast Asia are threatened with a loss in dynamism.  I will argue that deepening the integration of Southeast Asian economies will allow them to play a role in moderating the US-China trade war and to help forge a new global governance system for the new multi-polar world that will preserve the good parts of globalization.
